Gua sha stone gliding over skin with a golden facial oil

The best face oil for gua sha

◆ ◆ ◆

Gua sha lives or dies on one thing: slip.

The stone should glide, never drag. On bare or half-absorbed skin it catches and pulls, which is uncomfortable and works against the point of the practice. The right facial oil gives a smooth, lasting glide for the full massage, then settles in once you finish. This is why oil, not a fast-absorbing moisturiser, is the tool most people are missing.

01 · What to look for

Four things a gua sha oil needs

Slip that lasts. Enough glide to carry the whole sequence without the stone skipping or dragging.

A clean finish. It should absorb afterwards rather than leaving a greasy film, so it works morning or night.

Low-comedogenic oils. Lightweight plant oils such as jojoba, grapeseed and sweet almond glide well and are less likely to congest skin.

Botanical, not mineral. Plant oils bring their own skin benefits; pure mineral oil only sits on the surface.

02 · Oil vs serum vs moisturiser

Why an oil beats the rest

A water-based serum sinks in within seconds, so the glide is gone before you have finished one side of the face. A moisturiser absorbs and drags partway through. A facial oil holds its slip for the full ritual, then absorbs cleanly.

The considered approach is both: a hydrating serum first for the skin, then a few drops of facial oil over the top for the glide. That way the massage stays smooth and the skin is fed at the same time.

03 · A face oil built for slip

Curcuma Glow Oil

Curcuma Glow Oil, a golden botanical facial oil for gua sha

Curcuma is a blend of thirteen botanical oils, jojoba, rosehip, sweet almond, grapeseed and sea buckthorn among them, which is exactly the profile gua sha rewards. Enough slip to carry the full massage, a light non-greasy finish so it works day or night, and turmeric at its heart to help the skin look brighter over time.

It reads as a golden botanical oil, not a diluted serum. Which is what makes it glide.

04 · The technique

How to do gua sha with oil

1. Prep. On clean skin, press in a hydrating serum if you use one, then warm three to four drops of facial oil between the fingers and press over the face and neck.

2. Angle. Hold the stone almost flat to the skin, around a fifteen degree angle, and use light, gentle pressure. This is a glide, not a grind.

3. Sweep. Work upward and outward in slow strokes, three to five per area, from the centre of the face toward the hairline, and down the neck.

4. Finish. Let the remaining oil absorb. No need to rinse; the finish should feel soft, not greasy.
